Script

This Project is for Chinese Students who are thinking of coming to Ulster for University. I am going to focus my video on Magee Campus and the City of Derry. I will use very little Dialogue in the Film as I the Chinese Students might not understand some of it. This film is made up of two main factors; What Chinese Students have in common with students at Ulster and what they can experience in Ulster that they can’t experience in China.

 Scene 1

University Highlights

My film will begin by a student painting Chinese symbols onto a wall, the symbols mean “Welcome” in Chinese. Then the video cuts to some time lapse shots around the City of Derry in the day time. This is to give an overall view of Derry and the Culture it has. My Film will begin with some time lapse shots around the City of Derry in the day time. This is to give an overall view of Derry and the Culture it has. Then I will introduce the University itself in the same sort of style. I want highlight the Foyle Arts Building first as it is the building that has the most creativity and I can use that to my advantage. Some clips of music, dance, drama and indeed design students. I then want to show quick clips of the other faculties within the University.

Scene 2

Student/Lecturer Connectivity

This scene will begin with some clips from Duncreggan Student Village. This is a good chance to highlight some of the accommodation available to Chinese Students.  I will bring my Chinese Student into the picture and he/she will walk about the village and this will be done in a creative, possibly split screen effects. My Student goes on his Halls and goes to his computer and log onto his Facebook page. He starts talking to his Lecturer about his work; the next shot will be the Lecturer talking back to him via Facebook with a Chinese translation of “Lecturer”.  It then shows the Student and Lecture sitting down on a one to one basis and discussing the Students work and the Lecturer is giving the Student good advice towards making his work better. The scene cuts back and forth to the student creating a digital Speed Painting of an Anime illustration as the Discussion is happening.  The Student is then presenting his work in front of a class and is explaining his thoughts and ideas. It shows the lecturers interested and indeed learning from the Student. This is completely different from the teaching methods in the Chinese Universities and offers a better learning experience.  

Scene 3

Sights and Sounds of Ulster

My next scene will begin with my student walking up to his car. He/she gets into his car and goes for a drive about Derry City and puts on the radio. This will then play out some local music and some music that Chinese Students can maybe relate too e.g. Dance, Rock and Indie. As the Student is driving about it will show various clips of some of the sites of that the Chinese can view when they come over here. The city itself has a vast history and plenty of Culture so this clip will be the perfect chance to highlight these.

Scene 4

Ulster’s Relaxing Nature

This scene is going to be a nice relaxing scene that shows the Chinese Students some Nature. It will start with the student in the car and he comes to a beach and drives along the beach and parks up. He gets out and walks along the beach and looks around and it cuts some great shots of the ocean tide hitting the sand and he sits there and looks around just relaxing. I want to add some creative shots in this scene such as time lapse and some stop motions. This is something a Chinese Student can’t possibly do over in China as there are no beaches over there and if there was there would be about a million people at them due to the country being overpopulated.

Scene 5

Sports

This scene will be about my Student showing the interesting sports activities that are available at the University of Ulster. I created a video for my last semester involving a sport that I myself had been doing for a while, it was called “Muay Thai”, a form of kickboxing. So I have experience at creating these types of videos. Chinese students might not be aware of the huge interest in Martial Arts in Ulster so this is a great chance to relate to them and show them that if they are interested in a particular sport over in their own country. It can be various sports such as boxing, MMA, Karate or any sport that they think is not available over in Ulster.

Scene 6

The Irish Culture/Paddy’s Day

This is the scene where I show the best of the Culture in Ireland. It will begin with my student coming into a room and picking up a fiddle and beginning to play it. Using visual effects there will be musical symbols coming from the fiddle and then the music will play through but it will cut my actor in a room putting on green and white face paint for St. Patrick’s Day. It will cut to some clips from the parades in Derry City and this will show the great atmosphere that the people of Derry have when these festive days come to town. The next part will be the student celebrating the day with his friends in among the town or indeed a bar. A series of photos from St. Patricks Day itself will then appear in quick succession. The next part to this scene will be later on the night time, a cool intro will be a blurred out image of a night scene and it will fade into my student standing in the union bar drinking with his mates and dancing with some girls. These are all things Chinese Students can’t do back home because some Universities are not as social as Ulster.

Scene 7

End Scene

My end scene will be a quick rewind clip of everything in the film so far and it ends with a bang noise and a white screen and some text will appear on the screen.
